The BOOG is back for August!

This month featuring the boogie selections of :
Tom Scott (Young Gifted And Broke)
Frank Booker
Lucky Lance (Team Dynamite)

The BOOG is a happy, hedonistic throwback to the 70s and 80s and the music hiphop was birthed out of - disco, funk and soul but most of all, boogie. Every month we bring together some of the best DJs and selectors from all over the music scene to set the dance floor on fire with their favourite boogie tunes.

The BOOG is all about good vibes on the dance floor and a room full of swaying bodies with enough space for everyone, so go ahead and leave any bad buzz at the door.

Sir Spyro

Straight off the back of the massive success of 'The Sir's' Topper Top, Beats People Movement are proud to present

Deep Medi Musik / The Grime Show / Rinse Fm / London, UK

Get your super limited earlybird tickets here:

As a grime DJ, selector and digger for new sounds, Spyro’s reputation is unrivaled. Mention his name to any grime head, and you’ll be met with a nod of respect. His radio shows and club sets are instrumental in bringing newer producers to wider attention, as well as showcasing new music from established names within the scene.

He’s impressively modest about his role and influence, however, explaining that if he hadn’t been invited to join the Rinse FM roster in 2005, “I’d probably be walking home from my 9 to 5 now! It wouldn’t have worked if I didn’t get on Rinse. It’s that simple. I’m so grateful to still be here.”

In terms of his approach to finding new music, he says, “I’m a hunter, I hunt down tunes, anything I hear that’s sick, I need it. I’ve got at least 3 tunes in my bag right now where I’ve heard them [in a club], I’ve walked up to the DJ – I don’t know who they are but they somehow know who I am – and I’ve said ‘This tune is sick, who made it?’ And they’re like ‘Me.’ I’m like ‘I’m Spyro’, and they’re like ‘I know,’” he grins. “And I’ll go ‘You need to give me your email, I need this tune!'”

Ivy Lab

North London trio Ivy Lab were brought together out of a shared enthusiasm for experimentations on the fringes of the Drum’n’Bass scene. Several years on from that initial coming together, the collective go from strength to strength propagating a new generation of sub-genres housed within the framework of their ’20/20 LDN’ project.
Several years on from their initial offerings, the collective now find themselves at the apex of the ‘Halftime’ movement - A motley assortment of actors from across the bass music landscape applying their sonic-heritage to experiments with hip-hop and drum machine electronica.

Ivy Lab head into the horizon not only with an anchored presence at the cutting edge of the bass-music landscape, but also a secured reputation as pioneering label bosses & event promoters in ownership of one of the UK’s most exciting contemporary music brands.

RNV & Ruffhouse Soundcheck Tour

After hosting a massive performance on the Cellar Stage at R&V last Summer the Ruffhouse boys are back with a NZ tour touching down in Auckland and Christchurch.

Whisper / A-Class / Rinsah / The Eyes / Halps / Shadow / Third Law / Emal / Dislocate / MC Crafty

The Ruffhouse Crew are a DJ collective who came on to the scene after an appearance at a flat party in Wellington. Their style of music is hard hitting, uplifting and they are known for their Drum & Bass background. Anyone who has been to a show and seen them play knows about the vibe they produce. They have played alongside a number of International DJs to come through New Zealand including SPY, Netsky, SIGMA, Flume, Rustie and Pendulum, and have headlined a number of sell out shows across both islands.

The Crew are stepping into their fifth year together and after some big festival appearances last summer they are ready to bring their high energy show back on the road this winter.

Following a sell out show in Christchurch last year the boys are back to do it all again and Auckland’s in for their first ever taste of the Ruffhouse madness.

This year the Crew have rounded up a few extra local legends to take on the road with R&V and they can’t wait to get back behind the decks.

Boswa In The Woods

Dumelang! Hello! Kia Ora!

My name is Phodiso Dintwe, I am a videographer and I teach Southern Afrikan dance. I'm putting this event together to raise funds for my project, 'Thebe Boswa - Shielding Heritage'.
I will be returning to Southern Afrika in September to reconnect with my heritage and family. While I'm over there I'll be filming as much of the dance culture as I can, while engaging with it all myself. This is because I firmly believe that dance has been one of the great ways my people keep connectivity with one another. And so in filming it, I get to keep a record of my experiences, but I also get to share it with you all.

TL;DR. I'm going back to the Motherland and I need your help :)

We'll be kicking the night off with some live Afro drumming paired with vocals from the Tswana, Igbo and Shona tongues - and some dancers will be there to entertain too ;) So if good rhythms mean anything to you, then this is the place to be!

Performers include:
Ijebu Pleasure Club + JessB + Unchained XL + Jinetero MC + Qualen Mathlay + DJ Azbo + DJ Orikol

Shakaiah Perez + Fathe Tesfamariam + Tresor Mukasa + Munashe Tapfuya
[and more to be announced...]

Doors open: 8PM (15th July)
Entry: $20 on the door / Students $15

AMIT is a UK based live Music Artist, Composer and Producer. He has released two critically acclaimed albums Neverending (2006) and 9 Times (2011) and over thirty slates of vinyl including ‘Killer Driller’, ‘Roots’ and ‘Acid Trip’.

AMIT has been hailed as one of the most distinctive and original voices within the electronic music industry. He is credited with creating a new and innovative sub genre within electronic music, influencing a generation of new music artists. He was the first music artist within Electronica to begin creating music at his signature ‘half-step’ at 174bpm. A whole range of fellow artists quickly followed suit but AMIT is widely acknowledged as having been the pioneer. His work has been placed in the top 5 'Best Single' and 'Best Producer' categories on the BBC Radio listener polls.

His music is very much influenced by Dub and in particularly artists such as King Tubby and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry. His music is also heavily influenced by Asian and Middle Eastern sounds, as well as Reggae, Dub, Electro, and Techno. AMIT has performed extensively at clubs and festivals across all continents.

In 2007 AMIT worked with legendary bass producer Bill Laswell on a project entitled ‘Inamorata’ that involved musicians across the globe including Iggy Pop, Mike Patton and Toshinori Kondo (released on the Sony Red label). AMIT has also composed music for several award winning film and theatre projects including Rent and Stain (London Film Festival official selection) and The Woods (Mill Valley Film Festival California Official Selection). AMIT has also supported bands such as Sonic Youth (State X Festival in Holland).

In 2009 while a participant in the Powerlab Scheme run by B3 Media in association with Film4 and the National Theatre, AMIT developed Electronic Orchestra, a ground breaking concept which saw AMIT musically ‘translate’ one of his tracks (with the help of Massive Attack’s Neil Davidge) entitled ‘MK Ultra’ from its previous existence as a piece of electronic music into a conventional score which can be played by an orchestra. 'MK Ultra' appeared on AMIT’s album ‘9 Times’ and is the first in a series of ‘translations’. ‘Electronic Orchestra’ is indicative of AMIT’s continuing desire to experiment with the boundaries of musical genres.

In April 2012, AMIT released an EP on EXIT Records including the widely acclaimed ‘Stay With Me’, ‘You Look Better Dead’, ‘Manic Minor’ and ‘Kritical’. The project saw AMIT reuniting with Irish/Indian vocalist RANI who previously featured on several tracks on ‘9 Times’. This fruitful collaborative relationship was further cemented by new releases for Metalheadz in October 2012 featuring ‘Killer Driller’ and ‘Colour Blind’ and for the pioneering electronic label Tempa, which featured ‘Acid Trip’ and ‘Don’t Forget Your Roots’ and were released in March 2013.

In the summer of 2013 AMIT inaugurated his very own long anticipated imprint AMAR and July saw the first release with ‘Human Warfare’ and ‘No Mercy’.

In 2013 AMIT remixed Machinedrum’s track ‘GunShotta’, this remix was released in November 2013 on Ninja Tune.

AMAR’s second release was a four track EP entitled The Parallel EP. It received rave reviews and the vinyl copies again sold out within days of the release date. This was followed by the 4 Stories EP, released on AMAR in March 2015, which continued with the imprints trend of featuring a range of tracks different bpms.

The fourth release for AMAR is planned for the second quarter of 2015.

Tickets available here.
