Tomorrow People

Aotearoa’s favourite ‘BBQ reggae’ band Tomorrow People are hitting the road in celebration of their #1 album BBQ REGGAE.

The Wellington-based collective achieved the seemingly impossible earlier this year, knocking international superstar Ed Sheeran off the top of the charts, when their latest EP BBQ REGGAE debuted at #1 in the Official NZ Music Charts.

Now to mark the momentous milestone, Tomorrow People have announced a 10 date nationwide tour, which kicks off in Whangarei at Tiki Tavern on Friday, May 11 and ends in Gisborne at the Cossie Club on Saturday, June 6.

Presented by Pato Entertainment and Flava, the extensive tour takes in all corners of the North Island, including Ruakaka, Whakatane, Turangi and Rotorua, and is a way for Tomorrow People to say thanks to their loyal fanbase and the new fans they’ve won over with their unique style of sunshine reggae.

They will be adding South Island dates and further North Island dates later in the year. See below for current list of dates and venues.

Tomorrow People - Marcus Abraham, Ken Saupese, Hamo Dell, Avina Kelekolio, Duane Te Whetu, Dan Sugrue and Tana Tupai - are one of the country’s most-loved reggae bands, with a string of popular releases to their name, including ‘Souljah Feeling’, ‘Feel Alright’ and ‘Take It Away’.

They made headlines when their EP BBQ REGGAE toppled Ed Sheeran from the charts and drew praise for releasing single ‘Don’t Wanna Fight It’ in three languages - English, Te Reo and Samoan, as a mark of respect to the band members’ heritage and the diversity of their audience. The band performed a tri-lingual mash-up of the track that went viral on their Facebook page.

Tomorrow People have established themselves as one of New Zealand’s most popular live acts, performing this summer at some of the country’s biggest festivals, from One Love Festival to Homegrown. They’ve also taken their music to the world, with tours across Australia, Tahiti, Rarotonga, Fiji, and Samoa.

Don’t miss your chance to experience the magic of Tomorrow People live.

Jeremy Loops

South Africa’s biggest contemporary music export Jeremy Loops announces his return to Australia and New Zealand today following on from his successful visit in 2016.

Becoming a hit outside of his homeland, Jeremy’s debut album Trading Change resulted in a 30,000-ticket tour across the UK and Europe as well as a massive European tour with Twenty One Pilots. His near-sellout tour of Australia in 2016 cemented his popularity downunder, while his latest single ‘Waves’ from his upcoming album ‘Critical As Water’ (March 16) has already racked up over a million streams on Spotify in just a few weeks.

“The first time we toured Australia we had no idea what to expect but five minutes into the first show we knew Aussie live music fans are maniacs like we are. The energy in that room was insane, and we’ve been looking forward to coming back ever since,” says Jeremy Loops.

“Getting to do Australia and New Zealand as part of this Critical As Water world tour shows just how important performing in this region is to us. And we know the love we give, Aussie and Kiwi crowds give will right back.”

The Australian and New Zealand shows are part of a massive global tour with 27 shows across ten countries, kicking off in March to celebrate the album’s release and winding its way through Europe, the UK, the US, Canada and finally Australia and New Zealand in May.

Loops’ cult-like following will continue to grow, with the new record Produced by Will Hicks (Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’, Lilly Allen, Bastille), with additional production contributions by Jake Gosling (James Bay, The Libertines, Shawn Mendes). ‘Waves’ has already featured in Spotify’s international viral chart.

When he’s not touring the world, Jeremy Loops is also the founder of South Africa’s Greenpop, a tree planting organisation that’s been responsible for 85,000 new trees across his homeland. He is one of the biggest artists in the country with his debut record entering the South African charts at #1 and winning MTV South Africa’s Alternative Album of the Year and iTunes South Africa’s Album of the Year.

NAH ZONE Showcase

Friday 25th May - Neck of the Woods, Auckland (R18)

Nah Zone is proud to present their debut showcase featuring: The Katayanagi Twins, Baccyard, Church & AP, N eo & Jinzo, Humbleboy & J$E, and Sugoi

Tickets go on sale at 2pm, Saturday April 28, with Live Early-birds from 10am, Friday April 27.

$10 Early-bird Special (Pre-Party + merch package) - private newsletter link
$10 General Admission -

Models by day and DJ duo by night, the Katayanagi Twins, comprised of twin sisters DJ China & Saiko, are here to make a statement. No strangers to Auckland’s nightlife, the twins have propelled to a familiar club night name at venues including Infinity, 1885, Roxy, and Impala, and are guaranteed to fire up any crowd with progressive and captivating sets. Although flawlessly performing as one, each individually provide a distinct and enigmatic energy to the creative scene. The pair recently threw down hard in the full-female line-up at JessB’s Block Party early April, and have only continued to dominate. Witness them bless the decks with a refreshing beverage to accompany you.

Recently supporting the Auckland leg of Eno x Dirty’s ‘Evil Adventures tour’, the infamously promiscuous Baccyard NZ is consistently steaming through the scene. He’s produced for Melodownz’s ‘The Anthem’ and a variety of Omni Potent tracks, various placements on Soulection radio, as well as a heavy solo collection of tasteful flips on Soundcloud which seamlessly fuse hip-hop, RnB and future beats. His latest track, 'GAWDSPLAN', raked up over 70,000 streams via Chill Children. He’s making waves like no other - don’t miss the chance to ride one.

Underdogs Church Leon & AP have been developing their craft in recent years - the lively rap duo opening up shows all over Auckland and shutting down others, all whilst doing the hard yards in the booth. With the recent release of their single ‘Alladat’, as well as a new project on the way, the young talents bring a modern approach to the sound of New Zealand. And yes, the rumours are true - Church Leon wagged class to feature in the most David Dallas’ 64 Bars series. Come and catch the newest kids on the hip-hop roll call for yourself.

After an extremely successful 2017, N eo is back again. Off the bat of performing at RnV last year with Jinzo, coupled with the success of joint E.P 'New Love', N eo is most definitely one of the high flyers in the underground rap scene. His most recent success 'Ghost Girl', gained attention from the likes of Sniffers and UGHH. N eo’s rough tone, yet melodic flair makes him one of NZ’s most interesting artists.

Producer/Rapper Jinzo is an expert in all things music; from funky beats and playful hooks, to grungy basslines and poetic verses. He shared a portion of his success last year with compatriot “N eo” while also gaining traction with his mixtape “7549” which dropped in mid-2017. His track “No Feelings” has gained almost 30k plays on SoundCloud, proving a promising start to the prestige Jinzo is to claim.

Hailing from Christchurch, KOME's own Humbleboy and J$E bring a new flavour of rap to the table. Both artists seamlessly complement one another; playing off each other’s words and flows to create high energy bangers. “Whip” is a perfect example of this, with fellow KOME member Spyde on the beat, both artists ‘ying-yanging’ to create an unforgettable tune. The future is looking bright for these two young prodigies.

Representing climate change, producer Sugoi is widely regarded as one of the best in the NZ scene - his music consistently conveying fresh creativity with unique percussive elements and a strong sense of melody. After recently winning the downtime sample challenge with his piece “matrix”, it would be fair to say that we will be hearing a lot more of the Sugoi sound in the future.

Thanks to the support from Good Buzz Kombucha.

BPM* presents Pinch (UK)

In October 2007 BPM* launched the first Dubstep Alliance night with a memorable headline set from the infamous don of Bristol bass then known as 'DJ Pinch'. A full 10 years later and the brand has been brought back out of retirement for one special event..

Beats People Movement* are proud to present

Pinch built his name and reputation during the experimental, early years of UK dubstep. Since then, he has continued to push bass-driven UK electronic music in expansive directions, by means of his own productions as well as via his flagship label, Tectonic Recordings, and the more recently formed Cold Recordings.

With releases and remixes that span the likes of Planet Mu, Swamp 81, Deep Medi, Soul Jazz, Honest Jons, Ninja Tune, Wax and many more, Pinch has consistently produced challenging music for the dance floor, with a focus on rhythmical form, bass and texture. He has collaborated on albums with Shackleton and Adrian Sherwood, as well as singles with Photek, Loefah, Distance (as Deleted Scenes), Roska as well as vocalists including Riko Dan and Killa P. He regularly collaborates with Mumdance to make twisted dancefloor bangers and, with whom he also released the DJ mix ‘Pinch B2B Mumdance’ as well as having contributed to the legendary Fabriclive mix series and Resident Advisor and FACT’s featured mix podcasts.

As a long standing vinyl enthusiast, Pinch still plays the globe with his vinyls and acetate dubplates in tow – going that extra mile to deliver an authentic sonic. His sets span a wide range of interconnecting sounds, bringing together elements from techno, grime, dubstep, jungle, electronica, dancehall, dub and beyond. Having led the winning team to success in a Bristol edition of Red Bulls Culture Clash series, Pinch knows how to get a crowd moving.

BPM* presents Distance (UK)

Beats People Movement* are proud to present

"Talk to anybody who knows their stuff about dubstep, the first name they mention when discussing the preservation of the ethos is Distance. The Chestplate Records founder has been keeping it deep and dark for almost a decade, while the world around him has melted under the neon glare of the mainstream.” - Thump Magazine

Hailing from South London, Distance is one of the true originators of the dubstep sound. Gathering early support from the legendary John Peel and going on to be a major part of the scene-defining Dubstep Warz radio special back in 2006, Distance has forged a name for himself as a critical figurehead in the scene going on to mix the eighth instalment of Tempa’s Dubstep Allstars series in 2011.

Distance's production output is also formidable, finding homes on a variety of top-notch labels including Hotflush, Tectonic and Boka - with his debut long player coming out on the world reputed Planet Mu in 2007. His own label, Chestplate Records, has now cemented itself as one of the main go to sources for the latest mutations of the genre, it’s sonic direction fusing metal influences with dubstep templates.

Once a regular fixture at seminal raves such as FWD>> and DMZ, Distance’s bookings now take him around the world where he devastates dance floors and sound systems in his own inimitable style. If you’re a fan of metal, industrial, dub, reggae and techno-influenced bass music then this is the night for you.

Smino & Monte Booker

Fuzen and SNIFFERS present:

Neck of the Woods
14 April

Tickets on sale now!

Fuzen, SNIFFERS, Astral People & Handsome Tours are excited to announce the debut New Zealand tour of Smino (Downtown Records / Zero Fatigue) & Monte Booker (Soulection / Zero Fatigue). The Chicago-based rapper and DJ/producer will bring their respective live sets to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Wellington & Auckland for the very first time this April.

Smino, the St-Louis native that Complex named one of “One of 2017’s Most Promising Rappers”, was born with creativity coursing through his blood. He began playing drums at the family’s church, rapping at age 7 and writing songs at 16. Moving to Chicago just as the city was becoming the rap boom town it is now fabled for, Smino evolved his “totally unforced confidence” (Pigeons & Planes), going on to sell out shows in New York, Chicago, St. Louis, Los Angeles and London.

Chicago producer Monte Booker is 21. He recently referred to some of his formative influences, like the Neptunes and Kanye West, as “the old hip-hop scene.” Considering Flying Lotus a genre unto himself, his sounds are bespoke, and his beats don’t smack as much as they pleasingly tumble forth, like tennis balls in a dryer. Booker is a late millennial making music for a new millennium.

With label & collective mates including Mura Masa, Justice, Joe Kay, Ravyn Lenae, Sango & Tommy Genesis, it’s no wonder Pitchfork sees the pair as “stand[ing] apart by creating a sonic world in which typical rules work differently”. Grammy-nominated producer Stefan Ponce (Vic Mensa, Childish Gambino) even predicted the creative partnership of Smino and Booker would rival that of DJ Premier and Guru’s or Drake and Noah “40” Shebib’s.

blkswn, featuring singles ‘Anita’ (remix featuring T-Pain), ‘Netflix & Dusse’, ‘Wild Irish Roses’ and the namesake single 'blkswn', is a testament to this - the distinct concoction of Monte’s soulful, modern production with Smino’s singsong, R&B-inflected rapping.

Don’t miss your chance to see these two artists blow you away with their respective soulful sets.

The Reflex (UK)

The BOOG and Friends & Whanau present : THE REFLEX (UK) Touring Australia and New Zealand for the first time!!

Noel Gallagher is a fan. Nile Rodgers is a fan. Kid Creole is a fan. Disclosure, Jazzy Jeff, Eats Everything are all fans. From house music royalty Joey Negro, Dimitri from Paris and Mousse T, to the original DJ/remix pioneers François K, Greg Wilson, Danny Krivit, all the way to Karizma, Mistajam, DJ Marky, Horse Meat Disco, J.Rocc, Jazzie B, Cut Killer, Rainer Truby, Acid Arab, Nightmares on Wax - all fans of The Reflex

Fascinated by the remix from an early age, London-based French native Nicolas Laugier, aka The Reflex, takes his cue from the first wave of disco remixers by using only the original sounds from the master tapes (or stems) to breathe new life into soul, pop and disco classics. Imaginative arrangements, boxfresh sonics and intricate editing make The Reflex Revisions rocket fuel for every DJ set.

Very few editors out there put as much time and detail into their work as The Reflex and the results speak for themselves: heavily championed by BBC6 Music’s Craig Charles, The Reflex Revisions have amassed over 50 weeks of radio play in just two years on this number one rated show. They have also found their way onto the playlists of tastemakers like Rob Da Bank, and Gilles Peterson, who last year sent the Michael Jackson ‘Rock With You’ Revision spinning around the globe.
But, it’s not all about the past for The Reflex; Nicolas has also been applying his stems-only formula to contemporary tracks, showing off the strength of his ‘less is more’ approach on production over 35 official remixes for Noel Gallagher, Cerrone, The Kooks, Seun Kuti, Roy Ayers, Simply Red, Nile Rodgers.. Having clearly established himself as one of the best in the remix field, now is the time to sit up and take notice of this French DJ / producer doing it his way.

There are edits, many of them. Then there are The Reflex Revisions – quite simply, next level.

Om Unit & Moresounds

Fuzen and The Operatives present:
Cosmic Bridge Records

With the Cosmic Bridge Label Night we celebrate of one of the most innovative and inspiring record labels in the worldwide bass music scene. Redefining the boundaries between Jungle, Drum and Bass, Dub, HipHop and Footwork, label founder Om Unit has brought some of the most talented producers together on a platform that sidesteps the pitfalls of genre-thinking. Drawing from such a broad bandwith of musical styles and influences, the cosmic family has grown over the past years into a global community of open minded musicmakers, DJs, visuals artists, promoters, writers and most importantly fans. This upcoming tour will see Om Unit himself and the much anticipated arrival of Parisian Dub Warrior Moresounds.

Bristol based producer and DJ, Jim Coles has been a significant and pioneering presence in various dance music circles since the late 2000s. Being a true fan of Jungle music since the earliest days of the genre, Coles fluid approach on sound system culture has stimulated a worldwide reignition of bass-heavy uptempo music and culture. His personal explorations have lead to new amalgamations of styles such as Jungle, Footwork, HipHop and vintage synth sounds. These he displays on his own Cosmic Bridge imprint, as well as legendary record labels like Metalheadz, Exit Records and Planet Mu.

The spirit of dub runs through Moresounds veins as with no other artist. Being a true scholar of Kingston legend King Tubby, the parisien producer forges high-pressure uptempo music with the crackling warmth of vintage analog gear. His unique style draws from the distinct use of classic dub effect units such as the Sherman filter bank, hard-to-track-down vocal cuts from Jamaican reggae clashes and fast pace syncopated breakbeat chops. This signature sound has manifested in many timeless releases on international dub-heavyweighters such as Lion Charge, ThirtyOne Recordings, Moonshine Rec. and ZamZam.

And as a DJ, he can’t be touched. Ben is a true dance music chameleon, famed for his genre-melting selections, flawless mixing, and deep collection of music in all styles worth hearing. He’s on fire at the moment - with Midland, Floating Points, Hunee, & Palms Trax commenting that his recent closing set at 2017’s Dekmantel Festival was ‘one of the greatest DJ sets they’ve ever seen’.

Call Super is a electronic visionary. His DJ sets are as distinctive as his productions - detailed and dynamic, the sound of a singular artist immersing themselves in music. His work, as albums or EPs for The Trilogy Tapes and Houndstooth, or his recent contribution to the fabric mix series, are already timeless. And behind the decks, he has a deft ability to craft sets with hypnotic intensity, rich in texture and emotion. Call Super will keep you guessing, but always make you move. We can’t wait to talk about this one for years to come.

As ever, dress to dance.

Friendly Potential is an open, inclusive party for people who want to have a good time. We can't relax until you do, so if someone is making you feel uncomfortable please let one of the crew or venue staff know.

Accept one another, be friendly & have fun!

Richter City Rebels x Ijebu Pleasure Club

Wellington's FIRST and FINEST second line RICHTER CITY REBELS join 11-piece Afrobeat/Pop covers machine IJEBU PLEASURE CLUB for a HI-ENERGY explosion of hot brass and drums. Take a trip from 1980s Nigeria to the corner of Rampart and Dumaine in New Orleans.

Mashing up the music you remember (and some that’s best forgotten) with the Nigerian funk style of Fela Kuti, and about a dozen musicians, IJEBU PLEASURE CLUB will surprise and delight. But mostly, get you shaking it.

The Richter City Rebels have a sound that blends RnB, soul, hip-hop, jazz and funk with the heart and soul of New Orleans brass band music. Trumpets, trombones, saxes, sousaphone, and percussion join to bring the ultimate Mardi Gras party, incorporating original compositions, funked-up pop tunes and hip-hop, the Rebels’ sound embodies the musical melting pot of Louisiana.
