Denham Audio and Manifesto

Notion Touring & Phys Ed join heads for their next addition to the tapestry in the stalwarts of the trailblazing Club Glow Collective Denham Audio & Mani Festo!

These two provide an urgently vital snapshot of the modern UK dance scene.

May 3rd Neck of the Woods, Auckland

Supported by Scarlett and AndWahn

Denham Audio

In a blizzard of breakbeats, b-lines and acid hooks, Denham Audio have brought new urgency and vitality to the modern rave scene. The sound they’re pushing is rooted in the legacy of UK hardcore, but those foundational sounds and styles are given a thorough spruce up, feeding into the buoyant areas of exploration happening between 140 and 160 BPM. Releases have been coming thick and fast, from early outings on Nineteen Ninety Four and Artifice through to a blistering run on WNCL, Frendzone! (alongside Violet), Lobster Theremin, Sneaker Social Club and more. Across these 12”s you can hear every shred of influence spilling out – from the upfront hardcore and jungle through to hip hop and reggae, and beyond the confines of music into sci-fi and anime.

As well as a relentless charge of rave-ready EPs and DJ sets spanning the UK and as far as Seoul, Tokyo, Berlin, New York and elsewhere, the Denham Audio pressure also piles into the Club Glow collective. Alongside Borai, LMajor and Mani Festo, Denham are presenting a communal front which first manifested as a tape series and now spans 12” drops, a monthly session on Balamii Radio and coordinated blitzes on appropriately sized dancehalls. It’s a natural extension of Denham’s production endeavours, succinctly captured on the SNKRX05 12” as “16v hatchback breakbeat NRG kickin’ it out of your Kenwood system.” We couldn’t have put it better ourselves.

Manifesto

Mani Festo is a champion for the transportive, perception-altering power of club music. His productions are a juxtaposition of inspiration, finding the nuances between genres and styles. He is focused on a mission to avoid obvious trends, whilst carving out a unique space in the musical zeitgeist of our time.

He uses his expressive productions, live performances and Dj sets to tell this story, approaching each with the same vision and technical execution that enables him to narrate a captivating world of cerebral machine music. Pulsating synthesizer loops, syncopated breakbeat rhythms and intricate sound design have all become a part of the Mani Festo sound. Which has seen him count labels such as Fabric, Sneaker Social Club, Rupture, Shall Not Fade & Hooversound as regular outlets, whilst wielding his own imprints Club Glow & Flightpath to great effect.

Having lived a life around sound systems and raves, embarking on missions into forests and warehouses in his youth and counting most of his formative experiences around festivals and clubs. His deep understanding and love of this culture is something that comes across clearly in his work. From production to design, djing to live performance. Mani Festo is committed to electronic music in all of its forms, on a journey that respects all that has come before, with an appetite to explore and discover new routes into the future.

Come may 3rd This will be a masterclass in honoring the past in the present to walk boldly into the future.

Oddisee - Auckland

ODDISEE RETURNS TO NEW ZEALAND IN MAY

Brooklyn based, Sudanese-American artist Oddisee makes an anticipated return to the shores of Aotearoa / New Zealand for three live shows. Since the release of his album ‘To What End’ in 2023 and more recently ‘Odd Sketches, Vol. 1’ in March 2024, Oddisee has performed extensively across Europe and North America, re-uniting with fans along the way.

Born Amir Elkhalifa in Washington D.C. to a Sudanese father and African American mother, and raised in Prince George’s County, Maryland, Oddisee bore witness to stark inequity early in life and became as political as the city he was raised in.

Elkhalifa tackles the human condition with unwavering conviction and candor, merging elements of jazz, funk, and go-go into his hip-hop rooted production. Instead of pursuing record deals and executives, Elkhalifa has taken the less-traveled path. Streamlining elements of the industry early on, from single-handedly recording, producing, and mixing his music to steering his marketing strategy and tour runs.

A string of contemporary releases—Rock Creek Park (2011), The Beauty in All (2013), The Good Fight (2015), Alwasta (2016), and The Iceberg (2017)—headlining performances and tours with his 5-piece band, Good Compny, and streams in the hundred-millions have propelled him to international recognition and acclaim.

Long celebrated as a deep-thinking emcee that delivers a masterclass in lyricism over his own production often influenced with the Go-Go music of his DMV roots, Oddisee explores human ambition, posing the question: “how far are you willing to go, and why?” on his 2023 return full length album “To What End”.

Oddisee’s work has been celebrated by NPR, TIME Magazine, Rolling Stone, New York Times, Washington Post, Complex, Hypebeast, KCRW, and many, many more across the globe.

The enigmatic London based post-punk three-piece of Nina Cristante, Jezmi Tarik Fehmi and Sam Fenton are finally set to bring their inimitable and intriguing sound to Aotearoa, plucking tunes from their Dean Blunt-released early work to the two full length 2023 releases The Twits and Tracey Denim (Matador / Remote Control).

With The Guardian noting that they’ve been “...breathlessly feted as London’s most exciting new band”, bar italia’s economical yet evocative song craft takes raucous, mystic, unkempt, occasionally sinister, and wholly committed turns – these are exhilarating rock songs, if wayward and strange…

Dayseeker Darksun New Zealand Tour 2024

DAYSEEKER embody what a rock band can be in the 21st century. Untethered from rules and agnostic of genre confines, the Southern California band—Rory Rodriguez, Gino Sgambelluri & Ramone Valerio —exist outside of any and all boundaries. As such, they seamlessly absorb culture at lightspeed, layering hypnotic hard rock and metallic catharsis above soundscapes punctuated by glistening post-pop, experimental indie, and alternative R&B. Tallying hundreds of millions of streams, selling out shows, and earning acclaim from the likes of Alternative Press and more, the band crystallize this outlier vision on their 2022 fifth full-length offering, Dark Sun.

“Overall, it feels more grownup,” observes Rory. “It’s less like we’re scene kids trying to be a rock band, and we’re actually a group of guys making rock music on our terms. We realized we were happier creating this way.”

Allysha Joy

Hendrick’s Gin, Jazz Auckland and 95bFM are proud to present:

ALLYSHA JOY (30/70 Collective, Worldwide FM).

Saturday March 23rd.

Neck of the Woods.

Hendrick's Gin, Jazz Auckland and 95bFM are proud to announce Allysha Joy live at Neck of the Woods on the 23rd March '24.

Off the back of accolades from her 2023 European, Japanese and two American tours, we are stoked to welcome one of our favourite artists, the lead singer from the mighty 30/70 Collective, Melbourne’s Allysha Joy! With an awesome catalogue of solo and collaborated music this is going to be something very special!

The Ghost Soundsystem will be given a workout down in the NOTW basement with added support on the turnies provided by Christoph el Turento (@Peace, Avantdale Bowling Club) and Hudge (Mass Appeal 95bFM).

--------

A bit about Allysha...

Well versed in poetry and performance, Joy’s potent lyricism, unique musicianship and incredible vocals have garnered legions of attentive fans the world over.

Joy has seamlessly forged her own sound over the years, putting her different skills on show, as singer, songwriter, keys player and selector. Well known as 30/70’s lead vocalist and with a heavy line-up of collaborations over the years, she has marked her place across continents, expansive projects and genres.

In 2022 Allysha brought a brand new amalgamation of her poetic practice and production to the forefront, with the release of her sophomore album ‘Torn : Tonic’ on First Word Records. Staunch and broken, poetic and vibrant, this second album encapsulates the pain and the remedy, and celebrates an incredible selection of feature artists; including Ego Ella May, Julien Dyne, and Dancing Water, as well as her debut as a producer.

On the live circuit, Joy has performed alongside the likes of Sampa the Great, Ezra Collective, Children of Zeus and KOKOROKO as well as performing at notable festivals such as We Out Here and Montreux Jazz Festival. Maintaining a monthly “Australian” radio show on Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide FM and compiling the VA compilation ‘They’re Energised’ for UK Label CoOp Presents, Allysha continues to provide platforms for “Australian” artists to reach global audiences, seeking opportunities to connect music and music lovers around the world over.

Allysha’s lyrics weave together a heartfelt mix of love, power, wonder, anger, faith and hope for change. An artist that presents a palette of intricate grace and optimism, whilst unafraid of adding uncomfortable truths. An incredibly powerful live performer; Allysha’s husky vocals sonically sync with her formidable Fender Rhodes playing, whilst her influences are a solid base of jazz, hip hop and R&B; all glazed with the unique special sauce the Melbourne / Narrm soul scene has become known for globally.

“The brilliant Allysha Joy on vocals .. this group (30/70 Collective) are very much the future of what’s going on in Melbourne in many ways!”
Gilles Peterson, BBC

“Wherever Allysha pops up I'm going to follow. She's got to have one of the most incredible voices in the country right now.”
Dave Ruby Howe, Triple J

“Allysha is pushing boundaries as a keys player (specifically Fender Rhodes), a poet, a singer and a producer. Until you see it live, it’s hard to understand how she manages to create her extraordinary full band sound in a solo show form just piano and simple pads, but all the beats are hers and she lays down some groove. “Know your power” indeed.”
Resident Advisor

“Quickly emerging as a prominent voice of Melbourne’s lauded soul scene, Allysha Joy brings exactly what her name suggests to a debut LP. Both powerfully forward-thinking and grounded, Acadie: Raw is expressive, experimental and unashamed of its honesty.”
Sami Heinonen-Barnes, Future Mag

“Acadie: Raw is everything there is to love about the current neo-soul and nu-jazz movements, combining sounds from both styles with adventurous abandon. This results in a flurry of smooth, exciting instrumentals for Allysha Joy to lay her sultry, silken vocals over. What a voice!”
Everything is Noise, ‘Album of the Year 2018’

“Joy proves that she is not only an incredibly talented vocalist, but also a diverse musician. Jazz, Hip Hop and RnB influences and her honest and personal song writing make this LP and elaborate and complex work of music”
The AU Review

GANGSTARS ft. BOHO (GER)

GangStars Underground Techno Party

Immerse in the stomping beats of GANGSTARS Underground Techno Party, where the dance floor transforms into a haven of electrifying rhythms. Join the movement, embrace your techno gang and experience the emergence of underground stars under neon-lit vibes. Let the raw connection of the beats unite us as the German headliner and 3 local superstars create a relentless journey through the heart of underground techno. Elevate the night, challenge the norms and dance your way to the extraordinary at Gangstars.

🎧 INTERNATIONAL HEADLINER - BOHO 🇩🇪 🎧

Originating in Cologne, Germany, BOHO, also known as Lars Kohl, has rapidly evolved into a prominent figure in the global techno scene. An unconventional journey began as a label owner with the establishment of Jannowitz Records in 2014, swiftly rising to dominate minimal and deep tech charts. Serving as a creative platform, Jannowitz Records, led by Lars, became a hub for innovative minds. However, in 2017, driven by an insatiable desire for personal expression, Lars introduced his musical alter ego: the DJ and producer BOHO. Mirroring the label's success, BOHO swiftly filled a void in the realm of underground electronic music, solidifying his status as a game-changer in Germany and beyond.

Movements

Orange County rockers MOVEMENTS weave an intimate beauty into their post hardcore-meets-alternative-rock creations, with their latest album RUCKUS! dexterously showcasing their signature tension-and-release style in a whole new way. Off the back of a whirlwind few years at MOVEMENTS HQ, with their 2020 album No Good Left to Give debuting at #3 on the Alternative charts and their streams doubling to over 200 million streams in the U.S alone, MOVEMENTS continue to evolve and excite - and their return down under will offer fans a chance to witness them in a whole new light.

Turning the spotlight firmly on the freshest up-and-coming artists in the scene, MOVEMENTS will also be performing at NEW BLOOM FEST next March with American Rockers CITIZEN, L.A. emotive hard-hitters TOUCHE AMORE, and pop punk powerhouse NO PRESSURE all lined up to rattle the collective roofs in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, alongside alternative rockers FLESHWATER and grunge shoegaze duo SOFTCULT both performing as part of their debut Australian appearances.

Mykki Blanco (USA)

Strange News Touring and Community Garden are honestly sizzling with excitement to announce rapper, performance artist, poet and activist Mykki Blanco is set to cavort across Aotearoa with three very special live shows this March.

How many artists can claim to have collaborated with Kathleen Hanna, Arca, Michael Stipe, Madonna, Saul Williams, Blood Orange, Anohni, Ian Isiah, Cities Aviv, Ashnikko, Jónsi and even collected a cheque from Kanye West? Not many, if any, but Mykki Blanco really is that artist.
Since their first release as Mykki Blanco & The Mutant Angels in 2012 Mykki has stepped straight beyond rap’s more traditionalist corners of misogyny, homophobia and transphobia; sincerely helping lift the culture to a new era. All the while Mykki has continued moving from the heart, to new sound - without any of the confines and brackets of style or division.

First borne of a YouTube video art project inspired by Lil Kim’s ‘Kimmy Blanco’ alter-ego, Mykki has gone from posting vlogs and raps on social media, to a true poet princess, to club super-duper star - and has become quite the mellifluous Mediterranean as of late; with the release of their latest EP Postcards From Italia.

Mykki has been becoming Mykki throughout, generously blazing trails for a myriad of queer artists and listeners.

Hot Mulligan (USA) 'Why Would I Watch' NZ Tour 2024, Auckland

Michigan Midwesterners Hot Mulligan announce they will make their long-awaited trip to NZ shores in March 2024 for their first ever string of NZ shows.

Hot Mulligan have a way of manifesting things into existence, whether it’s name dropping Michelle Branch and Mark Hoppus in song titles and netting responses from both (only one got the joke) or, true to their word, becoming synonymous with the newest wave of pop-punk and emo.

Since forming in Lansing, Michigan in 2014, the college friends have ascended from basements to buzz band on the back of two beloved albums out via No Sleep Records, 2018's Pilot and 2020's you’ll be fine.

Now, bolstered by 140 million Spotify streams, a sold-out nationwide headlining tour, support slots for the likes of The Wonder Years and New Found Glory and headlines in Alternative Press and Rock Sound, the band’s third LP out via Wax Bodega, Why Would I Watch, cements their evolution as one of the most versatile and profoundly moving bands in the underground.
