Tokyo Prose 'Wild Grace' Album Launch

The Liquid Lowdown alongside the Totrara crew (Mid Semester Special) brings you the official album launch of one of NZ's most prolific Drum & Bass producers Tokyo Prose

Sam Reed aka Tokyo Prose is a New Zealand based Drum & Bass producer with releases on Soul:r, Samurai Music, Hospital Records. He now celebrates the release of his sophomore album “Wild Grace” with his debut on Lenzman’s emergent The North Quarter label.

His music is regularly supported by many of the scenes biggest names including Calibre, Marcus Intalex, Lenzman, LSB, DJ Marky, Presha, London Elektricity, SpectraSoul and many more.

Tokyo Prose started his career on Samurai Music with 2011’s 'Introducing Tokyo Prose’ EP which featured the standout tune "Saving Grace”. In the same year, Tokyo Prose with Fis, went onto launch the Samurai Horo label including the track “The Truths” which has just featured on Forrest Swords’ 2018 DJ Kicks compilation.

In 2014 Tokyo Prose released his debut album ‘Presence’ on Samurai Music. ‘Presence’ marked the culmination of his musical exploration and evolution up until that point - encapsulating the soulful, emotive vibrancy of the Tokyo Prose sound, now fully formed and refined. The album featured a number of features with DRS, Riya and Fox on vocals and Lenzman, Synkro and LSB on co-production. The album showcased Tokyo Prose’s polished aesthetic with a firm focus on musicality and groove.

Soon after saw his first feature on Marcus Intalex's hugely respected label Soul:R with 'Tell Me', on the 5th edition of the popular Fourfit series.

Tokyo Prose returns with his sophomore album on The North Quarter. With 'Wild Grace' the Auckland native returns from an extended absence to deliver a masterclass in emotive musical storytelling. The project features some of his most sought-after works and includes vocals from Steo, Cleveland Watkiss and rising star [ K S R ] as well as collaborations with Race Banyon, Nether and LSB.

The night also features DJ's and MC's from both The Liquid Lowdown and The Totara crew including Chiccoreli, LAW, Reubix and Malsa with the night hosted and toasted bt MC J Dubs

Veteran Detroit Rapper Obie Trice Announces ‘Cheers’ 15th Year Anniversary Australian & New Zealand Tour

The Real Name No Gimmicks rapper Obie Trice is hitting Australia & New Zealand shores this July to celebrate his album ‘Cheers’ 15th Year Anniversary.

The title track "Cheers" celebrates Obie's successful debut into the rap game after being in the Detroit underground for many years. The album's title is a homage to the long running NBC sitcom of the same name.

Topics Obie has touched on this album include his life on the streets of Detroit, problems with his mother, relationships with women and the soulful reminder that, despite having made it into the mainstream, he has not forgotten his friends.
The album debuted at number 5 on the Billboard 200 with 226,000 copies sold in its first week and has sold over 2 million worldwide

The notable album also received love down-under as an ARIA charting album with 2 big singles being recognised in 2003.

Obie Trice went from no one to someone in the rap world quickly when Eminem signed him to Shady Records and executive produced his debut album ‘Cheers.’

Born on the west-side of Detroit in the Schoolcraft and Greenfield area, Trice began his rap career humbly. He dropped out of Cooley High School in the early '90s and began making ends meet, which wasn't too easy in the cold, abandoned streets of Detroit.

His turning point came in 1998 with the birth of his daughter, Kobie. Shortly afterward, he took note of Eminem's breakthrough success in 1999 and began to have faith that he too could make it in the rap game, despite living in wayward Detroit.

Fast forward a few years and Obie has cemented an extensive rap career of his own by establishing an independent music label ‘Black Market Entertainment.’ His first release from the label was ‘Bottoms Up,’ and in 2015 he released ‘Good Girls’ from his album ‘The Hangover.’

Still in the game, and with no intention of stopping Obie’s shows will be one not to be missed!

Jed Parsons 'Midnight Feast' Album Release

Jed Parsons is hitting the road to celebrate the release of his upcoming debut album MIDNIGHT FEAST, which is out on July 13.

Presented by Undertheradar, Parsons will tour with his full band, which includes Jonty O'Connor on drums; Moses Robbins on bass guitar and Tom Harris on keyboards.

The shows follow an action-packed few months for the Kiwi singer-songwriter who burst onto the local scene in January with the debut single from his upcoming album, ‘Get Lost’.

Described as a “tasty pop morsel” by music blog 13th Floor and “a heck of an introduction by ‘Get Lost’ debuted on Apple’s ‘Best of the Week’ playlist, was added at Hauraki and the bNets and helped to secure Parsons a slot at this year’s Auckland City Limits Festival. He then followed it up with the release of another gem from the upcoming album, ‘Everybody’s Stupid’ which received love from Hauraki and the bNets. The song’s video premiered on Tone Deaf in Australia.

“If you’re a fan of upbeat indie-pop, then you might already be aware of Kiwi muso Jed Parsons. But if not, he’s undoubtedly about to become one of your new favourite artists…” - Tone Deaf

‘Time’, the next single from MIDNIGHT FEAST, will be released on June 15, paving the way for what is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated Kiwi albums of 2018, and a tour that’s not-to-be-missed!

Jeremy Loops

South Africa’s biggest contemporary music export Jeremy Loops announces his return to Australia and New Zealand today following on from his successful visit in 2016.

Becoming a hit outside of his homeland, Jeremy’s debut album Trading Change resulted in a 30,000-ticket tour across the UK and Europe as well as a massive European tour with Twenty One Pilots. His near-sellout tour of Australia in 2016 cemented his popularity downunder, while his latest single ‘Waves’ from his upcoming album ‘Critical As Water’ (March 16) has already racked up over a million streams on Spotify in just a few weeks.

“The first time we toured Australia we had no idea what to expect but five minutes into the first show we knew Aussie live music fans are maniacs like we are. The energy in that room was insane, and we’ve been looking forward to coming back ever since,” says Jeremy Loops.

“Getting to do Australia and New Zealand as part of this Critical As Water world tour shows just how important performing in this region is to us. And we know the love we give, Aussie and Kiwi crowds give will right back.”

The Australian and New Zealand shows are part of a massive global tour with 27 shows across ten countries, kicking off in March to celebrate the album’s release and winding its way through Europe, the UK, the US, Canada and finally Australia and New Zealand in May.

Loops’ cult-like following will continue to grow, with the new record Produced by Will Hicks (Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’, Lilly Allen, Bastille), with additional production contributions by Jake Gosling (James Bay, The Libertines, Shawn Mendes). ‘Waves’ has already featured in Spotify’s international viral chart.

When he’s not touring the world, Jeremy Loops is also the founder of South Africa’s Greenpop, a tree planting organisation that’s been responsible for 85,000 new trees across his homeland. Tomorrow People

Aotearoa’s favourite ‘BBQ reggae’ band Tomorrow People are hitting the road in celebration of their #1 album BBQ REGGAE.

The Wellington-based collective achieved the seemingly impossible earlier this year, knocking international superstar Ed Sheeran off the top of the charts, when their latest EP BBQ REGGAE debuted at #1 in the Official NZ Music Charts.

Now to mark the momentous milestone, Tomorrow People have announced a 10 date nationwide tour, which kicks off in Whangarei at Tiki Tavern on Friday, May 11 and ends in Gisborne at the Cossie Club on Saturday, June 6.

Presented by Pato Entertainment and Flava, the extensive tour takes in all corners of the North Island, including Ruakaka, Whakatane, Turangi and Rotorua, and is a way for Tomorrow People to say thanks to their loyal fanbase and the new fans they’ve won over with their unique style of sunshine reggae.

They will be adding South Island dates and further North Island dates later in the year. See below for current list of dates and venues.

Tomorrow People - Marcus Abraham, Ken Saupese, Hamo Dell, Avina Kelekolio, Duane Te Whetu, Dan Sugrue and Tana Tupai - are one of the country’s most-loved reggae bands, with a string of popular releases to their name, including ‘Souljah Feeling’, ‘Feel Alright’ and ‘Take It Away’.

They made headlines when their EP BBQ REGGAE toppled Ed Sheeran from the charts and drew praise for releasing single ‘Don’t Wanna Fight It’ in three languages - English, Te Reo and Samoan, as a mark of respect to the band members’ heritage and the diversity of their audience. The band performed a tri-lingual mash-up of the track that went viral on their Facebook page.

Tomorrow People have established themselves as one of New Zealand’s most popular live acts, performing this summer at some of the country’s biggest festivals, from One Love Festival to Homegrown. They’ve also taken their music to the world, with tours across Australia, Tahiti, Rarotonga, Fiji, and Samoa.

Don’t miss your chance to experience the magic of Tomorrow People live.
