Om Unit & Moresounds

Fuzen and The Operatives present:
Cosmic Bridge Records

With the Cosmic Bridge Label Night we celebrate of one of the most innovative and inspiring record labels in the worldwide bass music scene. Redefining the boundaries between Jungle, Drum and Bass, Dub, HipHop and Footwork, label founder Om Unit has brought some of the most talented producers together on a platform that sidesteps the pitfalls of genre-thinking. Drawing from such a broad bandwith of musical styles and influences, the cosmic family has grown over the past years into a global community of open minded musicmakers, DJs, visuals artists, promoters, writers and most importantly fans. This upcoming tour will see Om Unit himself and the much anticipated arrival of Parisian Dub Warrior Moresounds.

Bristol based producer and DJ, Jim Coles has been a significant and pioneering presence in various dance music circles since the late 2000s. Being a true fan of Jungle music since the earliest days of the genre, Coles fluid approach on sound system culture has stimulated a worldwide reignition of bass-heavy uptempo music and culture. His personal explorations have lead to new amalgamations of styles such as Jungle, Footwork, HipHop and vintage synth sounds. These he displays on his own Cosmic Bridge imprint, as well as legendary record labels like Metalheadz, Exit Records and Planet Mu.

The spirit of dub runs through Moresounds veins as with no other artist. Being a true scholar of Kingston legend King Tubby, the parisien producer forges high-pressure uptempo music with the crackling warmth of vintage analog gear. His unique style draws from the distinct use of classic dub effect units such as the Sherman filter bank, hard-to-track-down vocal cuts from Jamaican reggae clashes and fast pace syncopated breakbeat chops. This signature sound has manifested in many timeless releases on international dub-heavyweighters such as Lion Charge, ThirtyOne Recordings, Moonshine Rec. and ZamZam.

Start stretching because we're VERY excited to welcome two of the world’s most universally adored DJs of today...

Ben UFO & Call Super

Friday 9th March 2018 @ Neck of the Woods

Tickets on sale 9am Monday 18th December

Few DJs share the worldwide acclaim of Ben UFO. He is one of the co-founders of Hessle Audio, a label that has spearheaded groundbreaking new sounds in electronic music. And as a DJ, he can’t be touched. Ben is a true dance music chameleon, famed for his genre-melting selections, flawless mixing, and deep collection of music in all styles worth hearing. He’s on fire at the moment - with Midland, Floating Points, Hunee, & Palms Trax commenting that his recent closing set at 2017’s Dekmantel Festival was ‘one of the greatest DJ sets they’ve ever seen’.

Call Super is a electronic visionary. His DJ sets are as distinctive as his productions - detailed and dynamic, the sound of a singular artist immersing themselves in music. His work, as albums or EPs for The Trilogy Tapes and Houndstooth, or his recent contribution to the fabric mix series, are already timeless. And behind the decks, he has a deft ability to craft sets with hypnotic intensity, rich in texture and emotion. Call Super will keep you guessing, but always make you move. We can’t wait to talk about this one for years to come.

As ever, dress to dance.

Friendly Potential is an open, inclusive party for people who want to have a good time. We can't relax until you do, so if someone is making you feel uncomfortable please let one of the crew or venue staff know.

Accept one another, be friendly & have fun!

The Genius of J Dilla

There are many talented beat makers and producers, but there will only ever be one J Dilla.

For the latest instalment commemorating Dilla's untimely death, a local line-up of Auckland artists will be paying homage to the man who shaped a new sound for hiphop that inspired beatsmiths, MCs and music lovers around the globe.

J Dilla a.k.a Jay Dee, born James D. Yancey, was one of the few artists whose records were bought on sight, played until digested and then discussed among fans and critics. He kept Hip Hop relevant long after many of its greatest heroes had creatively left it for dead. Well respected musicians such as Questlove, Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest, Common & Janet Jackson have worked with, and been influenced by J Dilla’s talents and he is often described as “your favourite producers favourite producer”

PSA: Mndsgn & Ivan Ave will now be joining us in Auckland !!

Auckland - 10th February 2018
Ivan Ave (NOR)
Joyce Wrice (USA)
Benedek (USA)
Silentjay & Jace XL (AUS)
+ DJs Sam Harmony & Lori

Live and direct from Crown Ruler HQ we’re letting the cat out of the bag:
This summer Joyce Wrice, Benedek & Silentjay & Jace XL are making a mission across NZ.

For all those people who have been bumping Ivan Ave and MNDSGN’s Low Jams EP every morning since their Soundcloud-savvy mate bopped them over the head with it in 2014, blushing at the smile in Joyce Wrice’s maple syrup coated pipes when she serenades them on I Want You, closing their eyes and pretending they’re floating in a marshmallow funk paradise to the soundtrack of Bene’s World, fashioning a damn near perfect zoot for their significant other to the soundtrack of Silentjay & Jace XL’s Rockabye… Gear yourself up to see the all stars mentioned above, live (!), on the same night.

Hailing from Los Angeles, Oslo & Melbourne, each artist has had a unique contribution to the re-imagination and amalgamation of RnB, boogie and hip hop – in their own right, and across the countless collabs shared amongst them. And, to answer the question plaguing your mind; yes, these collabs will happen before your very ears!

Ryan Hendriks 'Old Zealand' Album Launch Party.

“Old Zealand is Aotearoa before the lies, before the concrete trees and dirty rivers,
Old Zealand is now and then without being subjective, Old Zealand is objective.
Old Zealand is what happens when the last generation talk about the next one without listening,
It is the Permaculture used to heal the soil dehydrated by societies malnourishment.
Old Zealand is what happens to ‘new’ land discovered by people running from home in search of what they forgot.
Old Zealand is what happens to someone that never leaves.
Old Zealand Is both you and I simultaneously.
Old Zealand is a story told by Ryan Hendriks,
It is not Ryan’s story.. Old Zealand to Ryan is like the land owned by foreign investors that once nourished his ancestors children.
Old Zealand is what happens when fact and fiction got killed by the greater good.”

Albion Place // Mascuzzi Jacuzzi Tour // Auckland

Support from Balu Brigada and Jack Berry

To celebrate the much anticipated release of their debut album, Mascuzzi Jacuzzi (out Dec 1st) and on the back of their first Australian tour, Dunedin favourites, Albion Place are returning to NZ shores in what promises to be one of the most memorable tours of the summer. Beginning in Wellington, the young indie-rockers then head through Mount Maunganui, Auckland, Nelson, Christchurch, Queenstown and Dunedin with a selection of their new material, and all of the old favourites.

Mascuzzi Jacuzzi is a real coming-of-age album both lyrically and musically that offers long time listeners their first substantial taste of a truly unique Albion Place sound. It is sensual and groovy, combining smooth soulful melodies with funky rhythm and psychedelic synth undertones. When asked about the new album the band said “It’s the first time we’ve come out with something that’s exactly what we intended it to be, It feels fresh and it’s exciting knowing that this project is the best description of where we’re at as humans.” Working with the likes of Oli Wilson (The Chills, Knives at Noon), Steven John Marr (Kane Strang, Doprah) and Tom Bell (The Shifting Sands) there is plenty of reason to to be excited about this coming together of talent and experience.

2017 has been a big year for Albion Place. Selling out rooms across New Zealand both in support of their single Easier, and in conjunction with Corona on NZ’s first Corona Sunset’s tour. The band have also secured a main stage slot at famous New Years festival Rhythm & Alps, where they will look to kickstart what promises to be an exciting 2018 for the young band.

Joined by an eclectic group support acts, the Mascuzzi Jacuzzi tour will be a unique display of today’s exciting young New Zealand music scene and should not be missed. Tickets available from
