In October 2007 BPM* launched the first Dubstep Alliance night with a memorable headline set from the infamous don of Bristol bass then known as 'DJ Pinch'. A full 10 years later and the brand has been brought back out of retirement for one special event..
Beats People Movement* are proud to present
PINCH
Pinch built his name and reputation during the experimental, early years of UK dubstep. Since then, he has continued to push bass-driven UK electronic music in expansive directions, by means of his own productions as well as via his flagship label, Tectonic Recordings, and the more recently formed Cold Recordings.
With releases and remixes that span the likes of Planet Mu, Swamp 81, Deep Medi, Soul Jazz, Honest Jons, Ninja Tune, Wax and many more, Pinch has consistently produced challenging music for the dance floor, with a focus on rhythmical form, bass and texture. He has collaborated on albums with Shackleton and Adrian Sherwood, as well as singles with Photek, Loefah, Distance (as Deleted Scenes), Roska as well as vocalists including Riko Dan and Killa P. He regularly collaborates with Mumdance to make twisted dancefloor bangers and, with whom he also released the DJ mix ‘Pinch B2B Mumdance’ as well as having contributed to the legendary Fabriclive mix series and Resident Advisor and FACT’s featured mix podcasts.
As a long standing vinyl enthusiast, Pinch still plays the globe with his vinyls and acetate dubplates in tow – going that extra mile to deliver an authentic sonic. His sets span a wide range of interconnecting sounds, bringing together elements from techno, grime, dubstep, jungle, electronica, dancehall, dub and beyond. Having led the winning team to success in a Bristol edition of Red Bulls Culture Clash series, Pinch knows how to get a crowd moving.
